Ghost XP to a win 7 laptop

    Hi all

This is my first ever post, so sorry if I don't provide enough information.

I have a laptop running Win 7 pro 32bit, i want to put a copy of my corp laptop (running XP) onto it without loosing 7.

Can I put a ghost of my corp laptop into the virtual environment that is available within 7? If not can i ghost a copy onto my HDD so i have dual OS's?

    Many thanks

    Ben

Hello byocky, welcome to Seven Forums!

As a start since you have Windows 7 Professional, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

If you were to ghost it to a second partition of the same size, you'd then need to boot the XP CD to do a Repair Install to start it on that hardware: Repair Windows XP - How To Perform a Repair Installation of Windows XP - Part 1 of 2

This will reset activation, so of course you'll need a retail XP license to migrate it as well.

Would I ghost the images to the Virtual XP as if I were running standard XP OS??

    Hello Ben.

Perhaps you should have a look at this tutorial at he link below, showing how to add XP as a second bootable OS to the PC though you may have to slipstream XP SATA drivers into the XP installation media to get it to install correctly if Windows 7 is installed in AHCI mode.
