"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" during Win7 Install

Hello everyone, first post and thread! :)

After many hours today looking for answers to this problem in many threads (and websites), I've finally decided to post to get some help from you guys! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have just finished building a new desktop, here is the config:

    Intel Core i5-2500K
    ASUS P8P67 Pro, Intel P67
    CORSAIR Dominator CMP8GX3M2A1600C9 2x 4GB
OCZ Vertex II Series SATA II 2.5" SSD, 60GB
    SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 1.0TB
    SAPPHIRE HD 6950 2GB
    Fractal Design Define R3
    CORSAIR HX750
    SONY OPTIARC AD-7260S SATA, DVD±RW

Using access to MSDN-AA, I got an ISO and key for Windows 7 Pro x64 (DVD - English). I then burnt the ISO to a DVD using my current computer, a WinXP 6 year old ACER laptop. When trying to do the clean install of Win 7 Pro on the new desktop, the installer starts up fine, but after choosing my language and regional settings, I get the famous "A required CD/DVD device driver is missing" error.

Here are the things I have tried, in vain:

    1) Installing the various available SATA drivers from the ASUS motherboard DVD. This doesn't help and gives a "No new devices could be found" error.
    2) Reburning the ISO with ImgBurn at 2.4x speed with verify on.
    3) Redownloading the ISO from MSDN-AA and reburning the new ISO at 2.4x speed.

Note that I would have tried to make a bootable flashdrive of the ISO (using this guide: Install Windows 7 From USB Drive/Pen Drive ) but since I'm on Win XP on my current computer, DiskPart doesn't work in the same way. I therefore cannot do this, at least not in the manner described in that guide.

Talking of DiskPart, I called up the command window in the Win 7 installer, and it shows NO drives at all. In the ASUS EFI BIOS, I have chosen boot priority for the DVD drive, and the two hard drives can be seen from there (although the SSD cannot be chosen as a priority for booting, which is weird, and possibly linked to this problem?).

I think I've said everything. Thanks in advance for any help!

Use the MS Download tool to write ISO to flash stick: Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

If this fails, check the HASH against official: http://www.dasmirnov.net/blog/window...-hash-checksum

Make sure you have the latest BIOS update, or reset the CMOS. Set SATA controller to AHCI first, then IDE if that fails.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install, swap RAM, test RAM if necessary.

If HD is used, wipe it with zeroes before install: SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Do you have this plugged into a jmicron or marvel sata port or on-board Intel SATA port?

Are you using IDE mode for the dvd? If so try AHCI

    Nice case, isn't it?

Just a few updates on both some things I tried and the steps suggested.

    1) I managed to get a Win7 flash drive working (using How To Create Bootable Windows 7, Vista, or XP USB Flash/Pen Drive Quickly ), and I'm getting the same error when trying to install from it (installer starts up fine).

    2) ASUS p8p67 PRO motherboard BIOS has been updated to 1204 (latest one available).

    3) The error still happens in the different following setups:
    (A) SSD connected to Intel SATA III port, HDD + DVD disconnected
    (B) SSD connected to Intel SATA II port, HDD + DVD disconnected
    (C) HDD connected to Intel SATA II port, SSD + DVD disconnected

Note that the usual setup would be: SSD + DVD on Intel SATA III and HDD on Marvel SATA III. JMicron controller is disabled. Not using the Intel SATA II ports because of the sandy bridge chipset design flaw (damn you Intel!). For all following tests, I'm using setup (A).

    4) Tried switching from AHCI to IDE, still get the same error.

    5) Both HDD and SSD are completely clean and have never been used, formatted or anything before (just bought them new).

    6) My saving grace, possibly! It seems that the CRC32 and SHA1 for my (already once redownloaded) ISO are NOT correct!

The website linked states that it should be:
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit:
    Name: en_windows_7_professional_x64_dvd_x15-65805.iso
    SHA-1: 50127304441A793EE51B3F501289F6599A559E9F
    CRC: 502C42C1

    What I have is:
    Windows 7 Professional 64-bit:
    Name: en_windows_7_professional_x64_dvd_X15-65805.iso
    SHA-1: FC815D81156E9FC6639E7ECFA020AB413E9A25FB
    CRC: 85B0F741

So the question is, what do I do now? Re-download it from MSDN-AA? Or is there somewhere else I can download it from where it won't be a corrupted file?

    7) A question for the RAM: I have 2x 4GB, is the aim just to check if each one is working fine? I'll probably work on getting the correct ISO first though.

GeneO, yep, the case is pretty great! Not too expensive as well.

Then it's likely the ISO since the MSDN Hash checksums also match those of the list posted earlier: Windows 7 ISO Downloads and Product Keys Live in MSDN TechNet » My Digital Life

Use the MS tool to write to flash or burn to DVD once you get confirmed HASH.

I'm currently downloading the file from another source ( Download Windows 7 ISO (Official 32-bit and 64-bit Direct Download Links) » My Digital Life ) since MSDN-AA files have failed me twice already. I'll check the CRC/SHA1 and see how it goes from there.

Do I have to use the MS tool to write the ISO or are other methods of making the USB key fine too? (Such as WinToFlash?)

MS Tool is easiest for MS downloaded ISO's. It can be fussy otherwise.

The method which always works for me is UltraISO trial version: Open ISO on File tab, Write Disk Image on Bootable tab, Format, Write. UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive

Have never heard of MSDN ISO's downloading corrupt, just not finishing or being interrupted.

It seems to be all working now! I copied the ISO to the USB using the MS tool, and everything went swimmingly well afterwards. Thanks again!
