    USB Boot Problem

So, I've been restoring Windows to my Netbook, and I followed the instructions found on this site to create a universal installer. I used my Windows 7 Home Premium .iso, followed the instructions to remove ei.cfg, and finally loaded the "universal" .iso onto my USB disk. However, I did not get the option to choose a version of Windows, and I now have Premium installed, unregistered. Has anyone else made this work, and if so, how?

Also, it might be worth noting that my screen resolution is squashed, and I have no option to change it.

Hello kosokuadam, welcome to Seven Forums!

Perhaps there was an error in the process and you should have another go, is this the method you used to add the ISO to the USB stick?

How about this, is the tutorial you used, it does work; I just did the SP 1 integrated the other day.

Those links led me to this one by Gregrocker: creating a 2 OS thumb drive

The .iso is only 3.65gb so will fit on a 4GB flash drive. I gotta try this.

I followed the directions Gregrocker provided at the link I posted and it worked perfectly. I now have a 4GB flash drive that I can install all 8 version from. Took 1 - 2 hours to do the whole thing.

Run the ei.cfg removal tool on the ISO so you don't have to recompile it.

Now install UltraISO trial version, on File tab Open the ISO, on Bootable tab Write Disk Image, Format button, Write button. Boot under USB or HD's using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key. Install your licensed version using Product Key on COA sticker.

Which type of ISO are you using?
    OEM, Retail,or manufacturer's OEM (Dell,Fujitsu,Samsung,etc)

This would only matter in XP. Since Vista the retail installer is the same as OEM. You only need to unlock all versions if necessary.

The key determines if OEM or retail, and version.

You can not use a manufacturer's OEM (Dell,Fujitsu,Samsung, etc) to make a Windows 7 universal ISO.

Do manufacturers still ship branded Installation DVD's?

I thought they dropped them quite awhile back, and now don't even ship Recovery CD's.

    Maybe with business computers?
