One thing we are gonna need is specifics of your machine, OS (32 or 64), clean install or upgrade, etc. then we might be able to help more quickly

just a guess, but try going into the Control Panel and Power Options. There you can configure how the shutdown button works. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Too many to list. OS XP, Seven, 2008R2 CPU AMD, Intel, VIA Motherboard Various Memory Corsair, Kingston, etc. Graphics Card ATI, NVIDIA Monitor(s) Displays Samsung Keyboard qwerty Hard Drives Maxtor, Western Digital Internet Speed 22 Mb/s @ home, 1 Gb/s @ server Other Info All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality. |

-250gb sata hd thanks for the specs. when you hit the shutdown button thru the start button what happens? Does the disk light flash consistantly for a minute or so then stop?

This can be caused by an error during shut down, try this:
Goto the Start Orb, type sysdm.cpl, and press Enter. Click the Advanced tab, and then click the Settings button under 'Startup and Recovery' (as opposed to the other two Settings buttons on that tab). Uncheck Automatically restart. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom Built OS Windows 7 Rc Build 7264 x86, Ubuntu CPU Intel Q8200 Quad Core Motherboard Asus P5QL Memory 2 Gb Graphics Card nVidia 8400GS Sound Card Stock Realtek HD Audio Monitor(s) Displays Hp 2207h and LG 42in LCD Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050, 1360 x 768 Keyboard Microsoft Wireless Mouse Microsoft Wireless PSU Corsair 550W Case Thermaltake DH 102 Cooling Unmodified Hard Drives 250 Gb seagate internal, (2) Western Digital 1 Tb external Internet Speed Time Warner - 15mb\s Other Info 4 ATI Digital Cable Tuners, 1 XBox 360, Life|Ware home automation,Yamaha RX-V765, Harmony 1000 Remote |

Nop unchecking Automatic restart don't help here. I can not turn my computer properly,it is always working, in xp shut down is ok but in windows 7 shut down restart my computer... Only with unpluging the cable from the power supply or from the wall i can stop my computer... that is my problem...
