    vc90 folders missing from winsxs folder

    Had system crash due to bad memory. Had to do a clean install as the MBR was broken and none of the MBR repair methods would fix it. This was about 6 wks ago. I have just discovered while trying to install 3rd party photo editing suite that there are no VC90.CRT folders in the Winsxs folder. I have tried to copy all the VC90 files from my lap top via usb stick, to this machine. Winsxs is read only and no amount of trying will get the file attributes to change. Is there anyway to get these files installes without another repair/reinstall/reactivate scenario?

    Install this: (Visual Studio 2008 redistributable package)

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en

    VS 2005 == VC80
    VS 2008 == VC90
    VS 2010 == VC100

    Edit: You may also need the x64 one /maybe/ if you have Windows 7 64 bit and run a 64 bit C/C++/MFC/ATL compiled program. The other packages are listed a tthe bottom of that page. Doesn;t hurt to install them other than taking up disk space...

    I tried that already and it won't install because......there's no vc90 files.

    I have gone back through the available downloads on the MS site and starting at VS 2005 tried to install all the upgrades. They won't install on my machine. It appears something was seriously wrong with my install. On trying to run a Recovery disc it gives me an error suggesting my DVD-ROM is malfunctioning. I guess I need to sort out the hardware issues first.
