Windows 7 - CD/DVD driver missing with Win 7 RC1 |

CD/DVD driver missing with Win 7 RC1 I am trying to install Windows 7 RC1 (build 7100) and get a message that "A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" while trying to install either 32-bit or 64-bit versions. ISO downloads have the correct MD5 checksums.
Computer is Asus P5W DH Deluxe. CD/DVD drive is a Samsung SH-S183L (SATA) connected to the JMicron JMB36X onboard SATA controller. Unfortunately, I don't have any other available SATA ports so cannot easily try switching the controller being used.
Any suggestions would be appreciated! | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number home-built OS Win 7-32, XP Pro-32 CPU Xeon 3070 (2.66 GHz) Motherboard Asus P5W DH Deluxe, BIOS 2901 Memory 4 GB Graphics Card PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 5750 (fanless) Sound Card on-board Monitor(s) Displays Dell U2711 Screen Resolution 2560x1440 Keyboard Lexmark IBM Type "M" - PS/2 connector Mouse Wacom Intous4, Logitech Wheel Mouse as backup PSU Seasonic SS-650HT Case Antec P180 Cooling Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120, 4 120mm fans (variable rpm) Hard Drives All SATA:

Hi Guy, and Welcome to the Windows 7 forums.
This problem seems to be caused by a bad download/burn of Windows 7.
Try burning the ISO again at a aslower speed and reinstall.

Any suggestions would be appreciated! basically the setup file is saying it cant read the dvd player because its driver is missing. first step (if you still have internet) is to update the driver for the samsung, and the jmicron.
Let us know if that doesnt help

Scott, both 32-bit and 64-bit fail with the same message, and the 32-bit DVD works successfully on another computer. Also, the MD5 checksum matches, so I don't think it's either a download or DVD problem.
Ken, thanks, but I can't get beyond "setup starting" in the install process. The setup process has been booted and is running from the very DVD it says it can't read.
Are you suggesting I update the driver on the install DVD? I'm not sure how to do that.
Thanks.

Have you got a working system on your machine? Does it handel your drive well? Yes, I booted from the install DVD. The DVD drive works well with any operating system I've run (XP Pro, 2003 SBS). And, yes, there is a working XP Pro system on the computer, but I doubt that matters as I've booted the DVD to begin a clean install. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number home-built OS Win 7-32, XP Pro-32 CPU Xeon 3070 (2.66 GHz) Motherboard Asus P5W DH Deluxe, BIOS 2901 Memory 4 GB Graphics Card PowerColor ATI Radeon HD 5750 (fanless) Sound Card on-board Monitor(s) Displays Dell U2711 Screen Resolution 2560x1440 Keyboard Lexmark IBM Type "M" - PS/2 connector Mouse Wacom Intous4, Logitech Wheel Mouse as backup PSU Seasonic SS-650HT Case Antec P180 Cooling Sunbeam Tuniq Tower 120, 4 120mm fans (variable rpm) Hard Drives All SATA:

That is starnge. I don't know why it does that.
Why don't you install it from a partition of your hard drive? I know it is not a solution for your question, but may be it helps. Funny how this thread is flowing on July 2, 1 day after the official expiration. I thought I had the silly OS patched against rebooting, and I know its frowned upon, but I like to do things on my own time. I bought ME, XP, XP+SP2, Vista, and pre-purchased 7. Nonetheless, I too was plagued with the "required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing" messages, even though whatever I tried browsing to wasn't what it was looking for.
Then I found a thread on a technet site and someone there asked what kind of DVD drive it was. I completely forgot that I had replaced my DVD with a SATA after I installed Windows 7 Beta Build 7000. I will attempt the install using an IDE DVD once I get home tonight, then I will attempt this speed install method and edit this message with my findings. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Custom OS Windows 7 CPU Intel P4 3.2 ghz Motherboard Gigabyte 8IPE Memory 2gb Graphics Card ATI 9200 Sound Card Sound Blaster Monitor(s) Displays Dell 22" Wide PSU Thermaltake Case N/A Cooling Thermaltake Big Typhoon Hard Drives 250gb SATA |

covale I could be wrong here, but maybe there is a compatability option in the BIOS to make the SATA DVD Drive compatable with IDE, this is true for some laptops that use SATA HDD, worth a check in the BIOS settings I think. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number home made OS Windows 7 7264x64(main), 7260x86(secendary), XP SP3 Triple Boot CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 2.8Mhz Motherboard Intel G33 express chipset Memory 2GB DD2 667 Graphics Card Intel(R) 82G33 Graphics and Memory Controller Hub Sound Card Realtek Built into the G31 Monitor(s) Displays 19" Screen Resolution 1280x1024 Keyboard Genius Mouse Logitech Case Gigabyte SETTO Hard Drives 320GB SATA (Main), 160GB IDE (Backup) Internet Speed 1MB Download, 128k Upload |

Windows XP and SBS 2003 both install flawlessly using this SATA DVD drive on my system. It's Windows 7 RC-1 that won't install. When I see behavior like that, I think "regression."
EDIT: I just tested build 7264 and had the same problem.
