    Make RECOVERY disk bootable?


    Hello,

    I recently purchaced a new notebook, shipped with W7 64-bit HP. I need 32-bit in order to run certain programs, so I used my W7 Ult DVD and installed it on this laptop.

    I did not delete the recovery partition that was already on the drive, but I re-installed my own W7 on the partition with the pre-installed W7.

    This was a mistake... I lack a lot of drivers and pre-compiled software that is not available for download from the manufactor.

    So, I hope there is a way to make the recovery disk bootable, so I can boot from it in order to respawn the pre-installed W7.

    Any ideas and tips are more than welcome!

    All data will be DELETED, backup your data first.

    You will need to mark the Recovery Partition ACTIVE.

    1) Boot DVD, & Press Shift+F10 (for command prompt)
    DISKPART : At PC Startup
    2) Boot DVD, & Command Prompt at Startup
    (for command prompt)
    Partition - Mark as Active

    On reboot Recovery will start.

    System recovery
    Disable Boot Booster in BIOS setup before you perform system recovery from USB flash disk, external optical drive or hidden partition.
    Ensure to connect your Eee PC to the AC power adapter before using F9 recovery to avoid recovery failure.
    Using recovery partition (F9 Recovery)
    1. Press <F9> during boot up.
    Ensure to press <F9> only once during boot up.
    2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
    3. Click Recovery in the Recovery System dialog box to start the system recovery.
    4. The system starts system recovery automatically and follow the onscreen instructions to complete the recovery process.

    Back up the recovery files
    1. Press <F9> during boot up.
    Ensure to press <F9> only once during boot up.
    2. Select the language you use and click to continue.
    3. Connect a USB storage device to your Eee PC and click Backup in the Recovery System dialog box to start the recovery files backup.
    • The size of the connected USB storage device should be larger than 16GB.
    • Memory cards are not supported for this function.
    • A dialog box appears as a reminder if you have not connected the USB storage device for system recovery backup to your Eee PC.
    4. Select a desired USB storage device if more than one USB storage device is connected to your Eee PC and click Continue.
    5. All the data on the selected USB storage device will be cleared. Click Continue to start the backup or click Back to back up your important data.
    You will lose all your data on the selected USB storage device. Ensure to back up your important data beforehand
    6. The system backup starts and click OK when done.
    This option may not be available on your model.

    Did you make your Recovery disks first? If so you can run them.

    There should be no 32 bit drivers not available in the installer or via Updates, or the Support Downloads webpage for the device model.

    What software are you missing that cannot be reinstalled without running the Recovery disks? We might be able to help you do so. 32 bit should be much easier than 64 bit.

    If so, you can change your install to Home Premium 32 bit and use the license on the laptop, so you still have your Ultimate license free. Just extract the Ultimate ISO using ImgBurn to unlock all versions to install HP: http://lifehacker.com/5438005/eicfg-...windows-7-disc
