Windows 7: Installation on a Sony Vaio fails

Hello everyone!

My sister asked me to install her newly acquired copy of Windows 7 in her Sony Vaio, I formatted his Vista and then procceeded to install it, but then an error appeared every time on the second step, telling me rollback.exe was creating an application error and it would take me back to the "install now" screen.

I'd have to call my sister for more information so that's why my post may lack some, but I'm feeling bad cause now she can't even use her computer and I feel it's my fault since i convinced her to switch :/

I somehow guess it fails because those computers are pre-configured to work with certain setups only, but I'm not really sure and don't even know how to check it.

It sounds like a failing in-place Upgrade, but since you said you formatted the HD before install it may be that the HD needs wiping before clean install. SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

Exactly how was it formatted? How is the installer being run now?

Where did you get Windows 7? Did you burn the DVD yourself?

It would be best to get the person actually trying the install into the thread here so we can walk them through troubleshooting steps. There is nothing to fear. It is a great learning experience with methods that have been used successfully hundreds of times.
