For some reason, these DVD's are not bootable and that's why you just get that blinking dash.
Hozer, hmmm..ImgBurn is the easiest to make a bootable image, all I can think of is the media itself is bad. In fact, that may be everyones problem here....bad DVD's.

Probably the only good thing about Nero these days, besides the burning ROM engine, is the DiskSpeed utility as it will do a surface scan on a burned disk and check for bad sectors. Maybe there's an free utility you can find online, (or a Nero torrent) that can do surface scans to see if the disk itself is bad.
I had a 100 DVD spindle that made perfect disks for the first 88 DVD's and then for some reason all the last 12 were coasters. Checked with DiskSpeed and every one went bad at the 2.3 to 2.8G mark. It wasn't a drive issue as my new spindle of disks burn properly, but that last 12 of the other lot were just hosed.

The dvd i burned with IMGBURN as recommended here on the boards onto two dvd's, and the usb stick i set up around 4 times now and im still unsuccessful.

Now the thing that is surprising is that i used the same usb stick to install windows 7 on my laptop a week ago and worked like a charm, the reason i am reinstalling it is because my xp copy was old and taking up alot of hd space so i decided to format my hd and instal a fresh copy of both.

Today i formatted my hd installed a fresh copy of xp sp3, used paragon to create a new partition, but when i got to installing windows 7 it just would not happen for me, and what happens as the above users the white line flashes but nothing happens.

Iv downloaded 3 different copies already and none of them seem to work.

For some reason my brothers 64bit copy seems to load but my laptop does not support 64bit so that is no good.

EDIT: Ok iv just downloaded a build 7264 and set up a usb stick instal and again nothing happend it said please insert a bootable media, i am going to try and burn it onto cd but i think im gonna get the same result.

Ok it worked. I guess its a matter of getting the right build.
Hi. For those still having trouble, I had a -.DLM file, not -.ISO. I edited the down-loaded file to read -.ISO and the file worked. It was all there but not tagged correctly.
Also, IMGBURN must be used with SLOWEST possible speed of burn and set to VERIFY. I had 5 dead DVDs for 32bit and 12, count em, 12 failures before I burned a suitable copy of 64bit. If the install asks for DVD drivers, throw the DVD as far as the bin, and start again. Download again if 20 DVDs don't work, and don't give up.

Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit

Something else you might think about is if you are having trouble with it installing as a second partition on a dual boot system you may have to put Windows 7 as the first pation on the disk then what ever else after it.

I was installing on a HP laptop with xp and it just wouldn't work right because XP was on the first partition. I reformatted the disk put windows 7 on the first half then XP on the second partition and then it work with no problems.
