Have a look at this one to see if it'll do what you want.

I would RMA the machine if under one year warranty, or return it to the store if possible for full refund.

It must be really new if there is such a BIOS lock as the previous ones were easy to get around and never this much of a PITA. HP needs to own this, as it will be deal-killer for new purchases if they don't.

Let their Customer Service (not tech support) know that it's being aired here and we want to know what they plan to do about this besides charge for a new mobo, which is unacceptable and a rip off of the consumer.

Once again thanks for all the Advise.

    @Bill2
I will try out the HP software you recomended tonight and post feedback. I am hoping this works. looks promising from the writeup.

    @ Bare Foot Kid
I had seen the tutorial. I was planning on testing it out this weekend. Another option I have at my disposal is to start an installation on another HP laptop and on first re-boot. Remove the HDD from the other laptop and put it into mine. and let the installation continue as it will boot from the HDD and not the DVD.
I'll post feedback for all to see this weekend.

Good idea. I gave up on tech support. I'll try sending Customer Service an e-mail and see what happens.

Thanks again and I'll post feedback here later tonight.

    Hi All,

    @ Bill2
Tried out the software but it still asks for a password to make any changes. I tried the procedure as per HP's website. Set the password and then re-booted but still no luck. It asks for a password that does not match the NEW one.

I'll post back later today on the "other laptop install".

Hey, didn't anybody notice that the subject of this thread is 'Install Win7 from Partition on same HDD', and not 'troubleshooting BIOS'!?

    Hi All,

Sorry for the late reply. Things have been busy at work.
I have successfully used the second laptop trick to complete an installation.

basically I began the installation on another HP laptop.
On first re-boot. I removed the HDD and put it into my laptop and
    continued the boot process.
    Installation continued without any problems.
