This guide assumes that you already have windows installed. Samiksha, make sure you restore your windows before following this guide.

I'd recommend choosing option 2 for installation from this guide. One change I'd recommend for a novice user with this is to choose "install alongside other operating systems" during step 8 listed in the instructions that theog linked you to. It is just a bit more user friendly to resize the partitions this way. Great tutorial though, if you follow the steps provided you should have no trouble getting both Windows and Ubuntu installed properly.

    Good luck :)

Samiksha, in Ubuntu, from the terminal console window, what is the output from the command:

    sudo fdisk -l

I just want to know what partitions everything is installed to.

    Hi Samiksha,

From the sounds of your original Post, Windows has been wiped out and Ubuntu is newly installed correct?

This is the guide that I used: Dual-Boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu in Perfect Harmony I would recommend starting again and following this, as it shows you perfectly how to do it.

One thing I would change though, is rather than precreating the Ubuntu Partition, instead use Disk management (search for it in Windows start menu) and created "Unallocated Space" on the hard drive to install Ubuntu into. When Ubuntu asks you to select partitions, select "Install ubuntu to largest free unallocated space" (or something like that, I can't remember the exact wording),

    Hope it helps :)

thank you all of u for helping me.
I again redid the proces. First i reloaded my Windows 7 OS.
Then using Ubuntu 10.10 live CD I installed it using "install alongside other operating systems" during step 8.
    It got installed properly.
Now i can boot in both OS's.
    No problem.
    Thank you.
