Dual boot problem while installing ubuntu 10.10 with windows 7 on hp

    Hello friends,

I am trying to make my new laptop hp- dv6 3174 dual boot with two operating systems Windows 7(which is preinstalled) and Ubuntu 10.10.
But after i install ubuntu, windows is getting erased. I tried repairing with system repair disc but not possible. Even if i put system repair disc it again ask to insert repair disc. And if i try to repair is with system image it replaces ubuntu with windows 7.
I asked some people here they are saying its issue with hp and not windows.
If anybody can solve this issue will be of gr8 help.

    thank you

First, download EasyBcd (open souce software developed by Ubuntu).

Link; Download EasyBCD 2.0.2.117 Free - A handy tool for tweaking your system - Softpedia

Install it with Windows 7, and run the EasyBcd.

Note: Don't delete the original entry of Windows 7 in EasyBcd.

You just need to add another entry for your Ubuntu. (Those settings with check box in EasyBcd under the last menu bar, just ignore it. By the way, you can change the name of the Windows 7 entry in EasyBcd (remove entry and rename entry are two different things)). Just to get the issue solve, you don't rename it first, because you may do something worst later as you confuse. Rename after you settle down the issue.

Restart, you are done, everything will work as fine as you wish.

Repair like what you had done before, start your Windows 7, and install.
