    Installation of 64 bit

    Hi,

    I just bought a Toshiba R700 i3 processor and 500gb drive.

When I turned on the machine, I was prompted to load either windows professional 32bit or 64bit. Load from where since I didn't seen either system on the HD. Baffles me.

I was told by Toshiba Direct that it would come loaded with the 64bit OS, so I just canceled out and let the system boot up. As it turned out it was loaded with the 32bit OS.

I backed up a mirror image of the system before I did anything else since it didn't come with any OEM CDs.

    Appreciate any input,
    Thanks,
    Don

It most likely has a hidden partition on it containing your windows install files.
That's how it is typically done on a laptop.

In order to get 64 now you will probably have to start the system recovery process. ... if it hasn't already locked you into a 32 bit setup scenario.

Call Toshiba tech support which is included for one year along with full hardware warranty. They will help you sort this out. Have them also show you how to make Recovery Disks - some manufacturers will mail them free within a certain time period. Request also a Win7 Installation DVD which some will provide if you ask in a certain period of time.
