    Windows cannot complete the installation

I have just restored my c drive and now during setup is preparing your computer for first use a message appears saying windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the installation.
It shows this message everytime I startup and keeps resetting the computer. My computer came with windows 7 already installed so I do not have a disk. Is there any way to solve this?

Go here to download the 7 Enterprise trial
    http://wb.dlservice.microsoft.com/dl....iso?lcid=1033
Then open the ISO in Power ISO and remove the ei.cfg file from sources folder
Then burn this ISO and boot into the DVD. Select your W7 edition (the one which came pre-installed) and insert your product key on the COA :)

While its not a bad idea to clean install if oem recovery fails, please note ei.cfg trick does not work on Enterprise to unlock other editions. Thats because enterprise is a totally separate creature, it doesnt include the other images. For a clean install, OP needs to find a retail installer, then remove ei.cfg.

However, OP have you made recovery disks? Also, how exactly did you go about the recovery?

So you are saying this ei. cfg trick will not work for me?

I'm not saying it wont work for "you", it just wont work if you use it on an enterprise edition disk. You need to find a retail installer (borrow from friend or find on the web) for that.

Its possible the recovery partition is hosed, if you created recovery disks beforehand you can try booting from those to recover. If you didnt, you can order them from Sony for a nominal charge. See this page also for more info.

    To order Sony disk:
    1.Go to http://servicesales.sel.sony.com.
2.Enter your computer's model number (for example, PCV-XXXX), and click List Parts and accessories.
3.Follow the online instructions to order the Recovery Media Kit.
If you are not able to access the Sony Direct Accessories and Parts Center Web site, contact a customer service representative at 1-800-488-7669.

Hello Gecko, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's additional information on the complete wipe and clean install process below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to use Step One of this tutorial at the first link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive.
    • Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
    • If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.
Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version

If you don't want to wipe the entire HDD, you can do a partition-specific wipe of the Windows partition using the Partition Wizard Bootable Disk (PWBD) have a look at Option Three in the tutorial at this link below.

I just had the same experience 2 days ago. It was a vicious cycle. Good thing, I checked again the manual that came with my VAIO laptop. Good thing, too, I took the time to make my recovery discs. Following the instructions, I restarted my laptop and at that point when the VAIO logo appeared on the screen, I pressed f11 (or was it f10?) several times until the Reboot Manager (I think that's how it is called) appeared on the screen. All you need to do is to follow the instructions that will appear on the screen. Give it a try! My recovery discs are real savior!!!
