re-install 7 on laptop ? ,no discs supplied.

Need to reinstall win7 on an asus laptop, which when purchased new, no discs were supplied as the win7 data backup was on an extra partition.

had made the Discs as recommended, during the setup process.
have read other posts about creating an image file, and clicking setup.exe, to install from an image, using program like ImgBurn.

Would the data on the second partition, that was pre installed on the laptop, be the same image file, and be run using setup.exe, if it is does the image need to mounted using a program like clone drive ?
prefer to reinstall from that partition, in case there are problems with the discs.
if this is too much trouble may use the discs created, 4 discs were made, do i insert the first disc and boot from DVD ?

or are bootdisks needed, when trying to reinstall win7, from another partition ?
unsure if there is a standard when purchasing a PC, in which no DVDs are supplied.

P.S. performing this for a friend, did the setup when purchased
do not have the laptop here yet, trying to get information before hand, due to never performing an install without the DVD.

You can restore from the asus recovery partition, failing that from the recovery disks you made. First back up any user data to an external drive or dvd. Then restart the computer and keep pressing F9 at boot repeatedly, you should now see an option for system recovery- select recovery, then follow onscreen prompts.

If that does not work, try restoring from the recovery disks. Insert the dvd no. 1 in the tray/slot, restart the computer and press F12 to get the one time boot menu. Select cd drive there, then follow on screen prompts. You will be prompted to insert dvd no.2, then 3, then 4.

If they/you made the system disks then on those there is one that will reinstall the OS.

that is if you can't use the built in recovery partition.

Another option is to clean reinstall using a Win7 Installation DVD for your version, with the Product Key on the COA sticker. Here are the steps to get a perfect reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7
