Will XP overwrite my 7 bootloader if it's on a separate hard drive?

This might sound stupid, but if I dual boot with Windows 7 on a physically separate hard drive, as well as XP, will XP still override my Windows 7 bootloader since it tends to get jealous?

My attempt at a joke...guess it wasn't so great lol

I thought it would, unless the W7 drive wasn't connected at the time of the install.

Oh well, if it does I'll just use EasyBCD, and if that fails I"ll repair using my Win 7 setup DVD. No way am I chancing a permanent downgrade :P

Unplug the other HD during install.

After install, plug back in the Win7 HD, set preferred HD to boot first in BIOS setup, then boot the other HD using the one-time BIOS Boot menu key which on HP is ESC.

This keeps the HD's independent to come and go as you please, whereas the Windows-managed Dual Boot configured by EasyBCD or installing newest OS last will interlock the HD's requiring surgery to remove one later.

If you decide you don't like the BIOS boot method, install EasyBCD 2.02 to Win7 to add XP.
