Log in as administrator, make a new account with the name as desired. Transfer settings if required. Delete the old account.

The issue is that you have an account which doesn't work properly due to be being incorrectly named. ( Assuming that is actually the case). You can simply rename an account, but that will not solve the problems if that account is not working properly. The problems which have arisen as a result of the incorrect naming will still be there even if you now rename the account.

Indeed, I don't know of any other way to solve that problem, "easy" or otherwise.

I have tried and I've never been able to successfully, completely change the user-name from the initial setup, it will appear 'changed' on the surface but in the Windows registry it will remain the same.

If the \Users\BrokenUser folder for the user in question is the only problem, then maybe it is possible to rename the user folder instead? (Not from explorer of course, but through the proper windows UI)

Though looking around the web, it looks like the far safest thing to do is create a new account entirely, then use the settings and transfer wizard to transfer the user ID and other settings to the new account :/ (Note, I have done that between machines but not from one account to another on the same machine, can;t help with that)

I can't understand your statement, If you know for a fact that there is an easy
shortcut, why in hell did you ask the question?

I think that the others in here have told you the reasoning and method to
doing what your question asked. Evidently you are not listening.
