Converting dvd installation to external hdd USB Hello guys, I have a dvd of genuine windows 64 bit professional and the problem is that instead of a cd/dvd drive I have an ultrabay hard drive which I want windows 7 to be on.
So the whole process would be getting all files from DVD, and "burning" them to external hard drive so I would be able to install Windows 7 on my 500gb hard drive.
Thank you and greatly appreciated in advance, I could not find a solution online for this scenario.

What about cloning the internal drive to the Ultrabay drive? Then use F12 to select which one to boot from? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Precision 370 OS Windows 7 Pro X64 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Dual LP 3.4Ghz Memory 4GB DDR PC2-5200 ECC Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400 Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Monitor(s) Displays Westinghouse 22" L2210NW Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives 300GB PATA

The question is, will the Win 7 installer see and allow the Ultrabay hard drive as an install target or will it consider it an external drive and not install there. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell Precision 370 OS Windows 7 Pro X64 CPU Intel Pentium 4 Dual LP 3.4Ghz Memory 4GB DDR PC2-5200 ECC Graphics Card NVIDIA Quadro FX 3400/4400 Sound Card SoundMAX Integrated Digital Audio Monitor(s) Displays Westinghouse 22" L2210NW Screen Resolution 1680 x 1050 Hard Drives 300GB PATA

Hmm I am pretty sure it will be recognized as internal rather than external drive so I hope it works. So far Windows 7 usb creator gives an error, giving a second try with imgBurn iso creator | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Lenovo T500 OS Windows 7 64 bit professional CPU T9600 duo 2.8ghz L2-6mb Memory 4gb ddr3 Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon 3650 HD Hard Drives 64GB SSD

That's how I do it and I think it's the easiest and fastest way :
USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create
Step 1. Format the USB Flash Disk
Run CMD (elevated) and type:
diskpart
list disk (*now find your USB disk number, you'll find it by its size)
select disk 1 (*if your USB is disk 1)
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1 (*this is 1, no matter what number is your USB disk)
active
format fs=fat32 (or ntfs, works with both)
assign
exit
Note: Don't type the things in parentheses above!!
Step 2. Copy Windows 7 or Vista's DVD content to the Flash Disk
Still on CMD, assuming your dvd is drive d: and your usb is drive e:
xcopy d:\*.* /s/e/f e:\ | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Built them myself, Science Experiments !
