Can't Install Windows 7!

I'm trying to install windows 7 on a PackardBell EasyNote NJ65, However when i try to install i either get a "BOOTMGR" missing screen before it even goes into the setup, or after the installation gets to the "Completing Installation" stage, i get an error code "0x8007045D".

The laptop was given to me by a friend, and previously had vista on it, however it got corrupted and wouldn't boot.

He thought it was just a OS problem, however i've been told it may be a hard drive problem?

Also I'm not great with computers, so if you have a fix, please try to keep it simple as possible!

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? If so confirm the ISO and burn another DVD at 4x Speed with ImgBurn.

Make sure you are correctly booting the DVD by setting BIOS to boot DVD drive first, then HDD, or use the one-time BIOS Boot menu hotkey to trigger the DVD drive at bootup. How to Boot your Computer from a Bootable CD or DVD

Next, Try wiping the HD with Diskpart Clean command to wipe any boot sector corruption:
DISKPART At PC Startup
Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command

If this fails, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup set SATA controller to AHCI.

Test your HD using maker's diagnostics/repair extended CD scan: HD Diagnostic

Hello Pentomic, welcome to Seven Forums!

Here's a lot of useful information below, use what you need and disregard the rest and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to save to external media, then boot the Windows 7 installation media to use Step One of this tutorial at the first link below to do a wipe (secure erase) to the entire Hard Disk Drive / Solid State Drive.

Whether you use diskpart to run either the clean all command to completely wipe a HDD / SSD or just the clean command to remove the format configuration data and don't use diskpart to create at least a single partition to do the installation to, letting the Windows installer do the format you will end up with the new Windows 7 System Reserved partition, if you want to make your own decision whether this partition is added, study these two (2) options below.

Then if you do not want to create the new Windows 7 "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #2 to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to do the installation to.
If you do want to create the "System Reserved" partition use the outline in Step Two #3 to create, format and mark Active the System Reserved partition and then create and format the 100GB partition to do the installation to.

Either way, running the "clean all" then creating and formatting the partition(s) using diskpart will get you the best possible space to do a clean install of Windows 7 to; you can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

Thanks for the advice guys, currently Wiping the HDD using diskpart, will let you know if it works after that.

Okay so it took ages to run through diskpart, not sure if that's normal but then it finally came up with the completion message.

However now when it shows the "where do you want to install windows" screen, i select the hard drive which is called "Disk 0 unallocated space". I then select "New" on this space, and after about 15 minutes of loading, i get a error message pop up saying "Failed to create a new partition on the selected unused space [Error:0x8007045d]."

i really appreciate all the help and links that you have given so far.

have you try gpart it is a bootable partition maker it dont need any os

Step Two of the same tutorial clearly shows how to create and format partitions using diskpart.
