    reuse windows 7 upgrade

I upgraded my laptop to Windows7, but it has had numerous graphics problems. Getting a new laptop and want to use the windows7 upgrade on an old desktop. Does anyone know if I can do this? I'm reloading the old laptop with factory install vista and then sending it to a recycle outfit.

Hello dbeethe, welcome to Seven Forums!

If you want to do a clean 'new' install of Windows 7 with an Upgrade installer you don't have to install Vista first, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I'm getting rid of the laptop because it has been crashing due to graphics. I'm planning to use the upgrade CD to install on a desktop I inherited.

As long as you remove the windows 7 from the original laptop when replacing it with vista, you should be within the terms and conditions, if you re-use the upgrade disk / key.
This is not true if the upgrade is an OEM version.
when you go to activate the new upgrade you will probably need to speak to MS to activate - just tell them the truth as you explained here and all should be OK

As long as the Upgrade activation key is used only on a single PC it will work.
