    Xp install gone wrong

I am trying to do a clean install of my brothers old xp pro laptop. I have done this many times but for some reason it does not want to work today. I have the boot sequence set to dvd drive, I inserted the disc and it acts like it wants to boot the white line just blinks but then the laptop starts it boot up like it couldn't read the disc. But after it gets all booted up it shows that their is an xp pro disc in the drive? Any one know how to fix this?

Dirty or scratched install disk? Clean disk or see if a new CD can be burned.

Dirty DVD Drive optics? Clean lens with lens blower brush.

Failing DVD Drive? Use external DVD drive, copy install files to USB or hard drive and install from that. Install from networked drive?

I had the same problem a while ago and I cleaned the cdrom with a clean rag after breathing on the cdrom and it then worked fine.

Also, just a thought, it is a full version of xp not an upgrade? Right ?

It is a full version of xp and I tried it in other xp systems and it boots up. The disc is brand new no scratches on it. I don't understand is why it reads the disc once the computer is booted up and not before.

Since you're sure you've set the CD (not DVD) drive first to boot in BIOS setup, are you prompted to Press Any Key...?

If not then it does not see the CD, perhaps because it is a DVD drive only and not a combo drive?

Try booting it using one-time BIOS Boot Menu key given on first BIOS screen.

It is a laptop it only has one drive it is a cd, dvd -rw drive. It is set to the first slot in the boot menu. After the bios shows the whte bar blinks in the upper left hand corner for about 10 seconds. It then boots to the installed os. The disc is a dvd.

Does the same thing happen when using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key?

Verify the ISO then try burning another CD using ImgBurn at 4x speed with Verify.

Tried the one time boot clicked cd/dvd drive and it flickered then went straight to os. I am trying to make a new os install dvd. Also I tried to use Boot and Nuke and nothing loaded from that. No go on the new disc.

Try resetting your CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Then use the one-time BIOS boot menu key.

Partition Wizard bootable CD will autoload to wipe the HD, then the XP CD should itself autoload .
