    Hello.

I would suggest you run a virus scan of the entire PC first to make sure it has not been infected, this a free scanner at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

hi cheers 4 the quick reply
i run avast and malwarebytes pro. full scans are comming up clean
wen i try to delete it i get the try again msg. saying this is no longer located in C:\. Verify the items location and try again.
the in the new windows in the hidden folder,in the same place with the same name that contains a bak file, a dat file and a tmp file and a readme which says
Technical Information for the PC Administrator:

The files securom_v7_01.dat and securom_v7_01.bak have been created during the installation of a SecuROM protected application.
It guarantees more user convenience because the original disc does not have to be in the local drive at all times anymore.
It is necessary for copy protected CDs, demo versions and protected software downloaded from the Internet.
The file contains your licences for all products which are SecuROM protected, therefore it will not be deleted automatically.
PLEASE DO NOT DELETE THE FILE BECAUSE YOU MIGHT LOOSE ESSENTIAL DIGITAL RIGHTS.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The information contained in securom_v7_01.dat will not be transferred to any other computer without your permission.

This security system is connected with a MS Windows Service called "SecuROM User Access Service".
This module is started automatically when launching a protected application if the user is logged in with Windows administrator rights.
In case users do not have administrator rights we recommend to keep it running.

See Home - Sony DADC SecuROM for further information

im pretty sure this is to do with the security of battlefield bad company 2. as i chose the online verification on install so i dont need the disc in the drive to play

Have you tried deleting them in Safe Mode?

Use Disk Cleanup from All Programs>Accessories>System Tools.

If it won't find it because it's shredded, download and install Take Ownership Shortcut then rightclick>Take Ownership of the folder and it's files. You may have to work your way down to the file which is balking.

And if all else fails, download Unlocker, available here. It forces the computer to delete files that won't delete. Give it a try.

You sometimes have to yank the problem files out, by full permissioning Everyone on the Security tab. Unlocker should get at it if all else fails.

Next time boot the installer, choose Custom Install then Drive Options to delete everything, create New partition(s) as you wish, then format before installing to first partition.

Ignore the 100mb boot partition it creates which conveniently places the Repair console normally on the DVD or REpair CD on the F8 Advanced Boot Options

Use these steps which apply to get a Perfect Reinstall.

I had this issue recently on a friend's machine which wouldnt let me delete the windows.old folder. Investigation revealed the presence of a securom folder with 2 files inside. I tried all the tricks including taking ownership, safe mode, commandprompt etc. The only thing that finally worked was Unlocker.

When I ran Unlocker (right click on windows.old folder) it gave the message that files do not appear to be locked but Unlocker can help you- choose the course of action, I chose delete the folder and it was gone.
