Can I use a Windows 7 Pro Retail Disc with a Home Premium License Key

I have a retail copy of Windows 7 Professional x64 and have just bought a new laptop with Home Premium x64. I'd like to do a fresh install using this pro disc and the license key on the bottom of my new laptop which is for Home Premium x64

Will this work?

1. The OEM license will not work with your retail disc.

2. Your retail disc should have it's own product key.

3. You can unlock your retail disc to reveal all versions of Windows 7 by this method: Windows 7 Universal Installation Disc - Create

4. You can if you wish use your retail disc to carry out a Windows Anytime Upgrade, which is quick and painless providing you have the latest updates installed first.

£120, although the student version will be a lot less if you have a student in your family.

In a few minutes, you could have a disc that lets you choose which version to install. That's the cheapest, easiest, simplest option, considering you already have a Home Premium license.

Are you saying you have already purchased a FULL retail copy of Windows 7 Professional?
If so then I would have expected you have a new license key and you would reinstall from scratch irrespective of the old OEM system.

If it's a Retail upgrade package MS once advised me that you can upgrade easily but it will still be tied to your PC.

I'm probably as confused as you now given some other respondents are more experienced in this area.
