    Installation XP


    Hi,

    Hope some one can help me.


    I'm running windows 7 ultimate.

    I'm trying to put windows XP back on my laptop but windows 7 will not allow me to do this is there a way around this thanks for any help!!!

    Hello vert, welcome to Seven Forums!



    Before we make any specific recommendations will you please post a snip/screen-shot of the entire disk management drive map with a full description as to which drive/partition is which, so we can see what you have going on as there may be a fairly simple way to resolve the situation.

    In the Windows start menu right click computer and click manage, in the left pane of the "Computer Management" window that opens click disk management and post a maximized snip of that.

    If you want to add XP as a dual boot to the unallocated space, you have to boot the XP CD and not run it from within Windows 7; have a look at this tutorial at the link below; just be 100% certain that you select the correct space to install XP to or you will over-write Windows 7 and all your data will be lost.

    If that is what you do, you will have to do 3 separate startup repairs to Windows 7 after the XP installation has completed to get Windows 7 booting again, have a look at this tutorial at the link below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

    Thanks for the advise,I have a new problem not sure what Ive done,
    The massage i'm getting is BOOTMGR is missing,So i put windows vista disc with no luck also the same story with XP,at the moment the laptops OS is windows 7 but i don't have the disc for that!!
    When i try to install XP it gives me an error message,It tries to install gets so far and gives out the error code.

    Do you have AHCI enabled in the PC BIOS?

    Juat had a little look at the BIOS and can't see it may be i'm not looking in the right place,Would this be in BIOS set up?
