Windows 7: recovery factory default software

Windows 7 home premium 32-bit
recovery factory default software

Hello all,
I really need your help desperately!
I think my computer got a virus. It was working fine until i shut it down. I tried to turn it on the next day and it said something like "windows is trying to repair the problem" or something like that. I tried to restore it to an earlier date but the same thing kept happening, so I just decided to use the repair disks.

I clicked the "recover to out-of-box" state and it started loading, then suddenly a window reading ," recovery factor default software" popped up, following with a smaller window titled , "Copy File" and reading:
"Invalid MS-DOS function.
Type:SWM File
Size: 643 mb
date modified: 9/3/2009 2:11 am

try again, skip, cancel "

I have a Toshiba L455-S5975
Windows 7 home premium 32 bit

What does this all mean, and more importantly, what do I do????!!!
Help, please!

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-Bit

Hello Nancy.

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Did you create a set of recovery discs when you first bought your laptop?

If you did, you can use them to put your system back to its out-of-box state.

If you didn't, you can order a set from Toshiba:

When you've recovered your system you can then create a recovery disc:

If you can't get into your system you need access to another computer to download and burn a Windows 7 repair disc. This won't reinstall Windows, but it will get you into the Windows 7 recovery environment where you have several options to get your system up and running again.

If i understand correctly, OP has already tried to reset to factory using Toshiba recovery disks and that process has failed. In this situation, you can try launching recovery from the recovery partition.

Another option is to download the system repair disk from Neosmart as suggested by seavixen32 and run repair options after booting from that disk. You should try startup repair and sfc scan.

In any case you can always clean install windows from a generic disk, then activate with the sticker key.

I know this may sound daft but have you tried wiping the disks even if they dont look dirty? Finger prints can stop a full image being opened during installation.
