    no installation disc?

sorry if this is in the wrong place. I have two computers with windows 7 home premium 64 bit and recently directx was corrupted on one. neither came with an installation disc so i was wondering how to go about a clean install. can i create with the good computer an installation disk or something to repair the bad one? thanks in advance

Welcome to the Seven Forums, usernamebryan.

If you reinstall the drivers for your GPU (graphics processing unit), that may fix the problem. If you fill out your system specs, we can help you find the correct drivers.

    Hope this helps

You'll need to borrow or find an installer for your version, or unlock any other version to create an all-versions Installer to install you licensed version with Product Key on COA sticker. The process is described here: Reinstalling Windows 7

You can also run full Factory Recovery after backing up your files, if you have factory preinstall.

Another method would be to move your target HD to your other machine, clone or image your other Win7 using Acronis premium imaging which comes free if you have any WD or Seagate HD in the mix, Macrium Reflect or Paragon 11 freeware, then SysPrep the HD before moving it back to target machine: SysPrep to move HD to another computer
or run Paragon Adaptive Restore on the cloned/reimaged HD before starting it up in target machine.

If your machines didn't come with install discs - then there must be an app. included to run off the manufacturer recovery discs.

Vital you run those off straight away.

Don't these oem machines prompt the user to do that?

Strange so many people haven't done it.

    Good advice.

Most people put the user manual in the bin.

Don't they get pop ups nagging them to do it when they are using their machines?

I don't know - I have never had an oem machine.

On a related note, some apps. e.g.when you open it Paragon will tell you to run off it's boot media.

Hard to believe oem's don't do something similar.

The best thing would be if the machine nagged the user every start up - until they had actually done it.

Upon the initial boot, you usually do (HP, Dell, Acer do it).

Once the disc is created, it can not be created again.

So it is important to remember where you store the disc.

Most OEM manufacturer's have a pop up, One Time only or 1 to 3 day time out.

One of my grandkid's Fujitsu Notebook came with Recovery Partition, Fujitsu REAL install DVD, & a Icon on the desktop to burn Drivers & App DVD.(about 18 month age)

Get son a Fujitsu Notebook, last month, came with NO Recovery Partition, Fujitsu REAL install & Drivers & App DVD's, but a System Reserved of 2gb.

The biggest problem with System Reserved & Recovery Partition is app's like AVG installing files there.
