I want to move my Windows Install and data to a faster drive on my sys

    Thanks for your help on this issue, can safely say that i got a bit flappy for no reason.

    Got the seagate version of acronis and it worked like a dream.

    Didnt have to repair the install, just cloned the old HDD to the new one, then as you said removed the sata cable from the old one after it shut down on completion of the clone.

    Changed the BIOS settings and moved the new HDD to SATA 1, booted first time.

    Then reconnected the old HDD into SATA 2 and rebooted, formatted the HDD then created a partition using partition manager and set about doing a back up using the acronis again.

    I think you have a great forum here.....helps me loads, much more than Microsoft Answers or Knowledge base which always gives some long winded explantion and never really tells you what you need to know!!
