    Windows 7- Reinstallation

    Hi.

I'm new to the Seven Forums.

I want to make my computer run faster and solve some problems on my computer. Some problems includes 'User Profile Can't Load' and can't login ( I have to restore Windows to an earlier state. I also want to make my computer run faster. I don't have enough time to do this so I want to reinstall...

However I was thinking can open a new user account and give it administration rights and move necessary files/ programs then deleting my current account, would that help? I just want to solve my computer problems and speed it up. (Trying to make my computer run like brand new). My Toshiba Laptop is only 1years old running Windows 7 320 GB Hard Drive. 4GB Ram.

    Thanks for your help.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

If there are inherent problems with your current setup then creating a new user account won't help.

A clean install of Windows will improve performance and indeed, many people do just that on a regular basis.

Once you've reinstalled your operating system and software to your liking create a full system image and save it to an external hard drive so that if you get problems in the future you can just restore the backup.

If you have a Toshiba laptop - it should have a recovery partition to boot into to restore it to factory settings:

    1. Copy all your files and documents to an external storage device.
    2. Shut down the computer.
    3. Turn the PC back on and hit the F8 key repeatedly until the Advanced Boot Option Screen appears.
    4. Click "Repair Your Computer" if you are not already on it and then press ENTER
    5. choose your country and click OK
    6. On the "System Recovery Options Screen" click "Restore Application" which is the last option.
    7. Follow the on-screen instructions
    8. When prompted, click on "Full Factory Recovery"
    9. "Next"
    10. Click "Yes"
    11. you will notice for a while it seems like nothing is happening, give it some time.
    12. After some minutes, recovery will complete and you click "Finish"

Do not use a retail W7 disc as you have an OEM system and you may have licence key issues.

Once you have got everything as you like it again follow Seavixens' advice and create a system image for the future.

That info is for XP and Vista shipped Laptops - The recovery partition is now on the hard drive itself, not saying that it wouldn't work, just there is no need to do things the hard way!!

Getting a Perfect Reinstall of Factory OEM

Many tech enthusiasts find a clean-copy DVD of their OS version and reinstall using the OEM Product Key on the COA sticker on machine. Any retail installer can also have all versions unlocked by extracting the ISO using ImgBurn, then run the ei.cfg removal tool, burn an all-versions DVD or write ISO to flash stick using this tool.

Back up your files externally, make your Recovery Disks so you have a path back to factory condition, or save a Backup Image of the entire HD first. Back up installed drivers from windows/system32/drivers, run an audit of installed hardware and software including keys using Belarc Advisor. Gather your program installers.

Boot the Windows 7 installer, choose Custom Install, then Drive Options (Advanced) to Delete all partitions not needed, following illustrated steps given here: Clean Install Windows 7

If you Delete all partitions to create New ones and Format, the installer will issue a 100mb System Reserved boot partition which conveniently places the Repair Console (normally only on the DVD or Repair CD) on the F8 Advanced Boot Options menu. Partition as you wish and Format before installing to first OS partition.

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Just in case, have your Wireless driver on flash stick or CD so you can get online quickly. Then enable hardware driver auto-updating and check for optional Updates frequently.

Any drivers still missing in Device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device. Driver Install - Device Manager

Install updates and then programs slowly over time to gauge performance changes after each. Don't let any programs write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they slow startup, become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and can spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets. Startup Programs - Change

Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials which works perfectly with Windows 7 Firewall. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

When it is finished, clean and order the HD perfectly using state-of-the-art free CCleaner Disk and Registry tabs, then Puran boot-time defragger + full Disk Check after adding Intelligent Optimizer on Additional Operations tab:
CCleaner - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
    http://download.cnet.com/Puran-Defra...-75115626.html

Finally save a Windows 7 Backup image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD (or replacement) using DVD/Repair CD with the stored image. Backup Complete Computer - Create an Image Backup

    Ok, Thanks for your help.

    How long will this take?
And if I change user accounts what will be the end result?
