Windows 7: no safe boot, no os listed

25 Aug 2011   #11

Windows 7 Professional x64

No, I just have plain SATA II 1.5T. HD tune gives 80-130 MB/sec. AFAIK the system reserved is just something windows made when it installed. I believe rescue uses it when you fail to boot to restore stuff but it not generally used. I've just given it a letter and ran a file searcher over it and the last file access was 22/8/11 at 2:00 am which is when I run my backup program (weekly). So I'm not using this as a rule.

Please help me with EUMONBMP.SYS

You treat EUMONBMP.SYS as being desirable and safe.

It frightened me this morning when I discovered it had appeared in C:\ on 30/08/2011 17:18:12.
I do not know where from or why.
It is 401 KB in size - Free Multi-Engine Online Virus Scanner v1.02, Supports 37 AntiVirus Engines! found no malware in it.

I have around this time used VMPLAYER to test EASEUS ToDo Backup and create backups and also the Rescue PE Boot CD.
Could this *.SYS have escaped out of the virtual machine whilst EASEUS was running,
or when I dragged 3 off backup images out of the machine to my secondary HDD,
or when I restarted my PC by rebooting with the EASEUS Boot CD to restore one of these images to unallocated space on the secondary HDD ?
