Using SSD for OS with ASUS P8P67 MB
My computer contains:
ASUS P8P67 MB
Intel i5 2500 CPU
16GB Corsair RAM
3 WD Black 1TB SATA III HDDs, two configured as RAID1 for data and one for OS
LG Blu-ray burner
LG DVD RW drive
Media card reader
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit OS
I just purchased a Corsair 128GB P128 SSD that I want to use for the OS, using the non-RAID 1TB HDD for backup for the RAID1 drives after moving the OS and any data files to the RAID drive. I'd like to put as much user data and app data as possible on the RAID drive, using the SSD only for apps and OS, and I also have questions about how to best use the six SATA ports on my MB (4 are SATA III, and 2 are SATA 2). The P8P67 has two Intel SATA III ports and two Marvell SATA III ports. I have my Blu-ray and DVD drives connected to the SATA 2 ports and the RAID is using the two Intel ports, with the third HDD on the Marvell port. My intent is to put the SSD, which is a SATA 2 device, on the second Marvell port, but I'm concerned that the Marvell port might not support TRIM for the SSD. I'd appreciate comments on my strategy and recommendations for how best to use the hardware I now have to work with, including the SSD.
