Laptop Crashed.

Hi
I was watching a video. But it wasn't playing. I closed the browser and then I pressed the windows key to shutoff. But the as soon as I clicked on the start button, the the cursor was going up. I wasnt hitting the up arrow.
So I forced shut down my laptop.
When I restarted it showed my the toshiba logo n and after two seconds started making noice.
Is there a way I can recover my laptop.
Please help!

Can you try to give us more information? How about your system specs, what the error was, did it boot in safe mode, etc?

Does the DVD boot? Just because it makes the noise doesn't mean it won't boot. What happens exactly?

Are you given the prompt to "Press Any Key to boot from DVD?"

If not try using the TOshiba one-time BIOS Boot Menu key F12 to boot the DVD.

If this fails, reboot and tap the F8 key, see if the Repair console is on Advanced Boot Options. If so boot into it to run Startup Repair repeatedly. If not, try Last Known Good Configuration.

Next try testing your HD and RAM with bootable CD extended tests: HD Diagnostic
RAM - Test with Memtest86+

WHere is the noise coming from exactly? Is the fan running and are the lights normal? What shows on the screen if anything?

You can or you cannot boot into the bios?

This is a 32 or 64 bit version of Windows 7?

You have how much ram?

I set the primary boot up from Cd/dvd. Restarted, I saw the orange light flashing on the cd rom but died after 5 seconds.
the boot up from disc therefore didnt work.

I have a 32 bit version and ram of 2 Gb. Havent downloaded anything recently and nor upgraded anything recently.

Also I dont see anything like advanced boot options.

Light are normal and the fan is running too.

Normally when you start your computer if you tap the F8 key repeatedly you will get the Advanced Boot Options. If you dont' get them then your HD may be bad.

Try booting into BIOS setup as Karl suggested using the key given on first boot screen (ESC, F1, F2) to see if HD is registering. Try booting with HD set first to boot to see if it makes a difference. You can try booting the CD using the F12 key then.

You can try downloading and burning to CD your HD diagnostics from the list I linked, or use Hirens Boot DIsk which has both HD and memory tests and can copy out your files. Either should autostart on its own, then you'll know for sure if it flunks the HD test.

Turn on your computer.
IMMEDIATELY and CONTINUALLY tap the F2 key.

This will get you into the bios.

Navigate around and find the "boot order" setting.

You want HARD DISK at the top of that list.

Save your settings and let the computer boot up.

This is the first thing I did, but I saw nothing except blank screen.

CD Rom is not recognizing the disc for some reason. Is there a way i can use a usb stick? (ubuntu)

Yes extract the ISO from the DVD using ImgBurn, save to Desktop.

Now download and install this tool, write Windows 7 ISO to flash stick with Windows 7 in the dropdown menu: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive Linux

Please respond to each question and step we have given you so we know how to proceed.
