    Clean/custom install?


    I've done this before, but I've forgotten how.
    My HD is completely clean, nothing on it; how do I install 7 using my upgrade disc?

    Easiest is the quick registry edit in the tutorial Doc linked, after leaving Product Key blank during install. Set a System Restore Point - Create.

    Here are other tips for getting a perfect reinstall based on hundreds done here - use the ones which apply since it was written for factory OEM reinstalls: Reinstalling Windows 7

Custom v Clean Install
in Installation & Setup

As people begin receiving their copies of Win 7 upgrade, there seems to be a problem doing a clean install. My question, what is the downside of doing a custom install, with a upgrade disc and the resulting windows.old, rather than a clean install, on a formatted drive?
