well my flash drive doesnt show up on the list disk and if my DVD drive doesnt work ( which idk why it wouldnt its been working just fine before i tried to install win7 ) then theres pretty much no way of getting an OS
i unhooked everything from my computer (besides power and display cords) and it still shuts off after about a minute of being on and doesnt even try to boot. plus for some odd reason no keyboard i plug into my computer ( ive tried 3 different ones ) turn on. so i cant press TAB to go to boot menu and i cant press DEL to go to post screen or whatever it says. pretty much anything that could have possibly went wrong with my computer has gone wrong. there was absolutely nothing wrong with it before. i dont understand this at all
here are my questions please answer them all.
1. Is it possible that for some reason my computer is turning off because its overheating? if this is probably not the issue then what do you think it is? if overheating is the problem what can i do to fix it (theres already 3 working fans in the computer and it has a cooler master case)
2. why wont my keyboards/mouses turn on until after the computer boots up
and please try to be not so techy with terms. i know quite a bit about computers but i must say im only 16 i dont know everything. try to explain a bit if you can
EDIT:
Oh and Greg, dont get me wrong I really appreciate you trying to help and all, but this is just so frustrating. I didnt expect all of these things to go wrong at once and its just overwhelming
You need a PS2 keyboard not USB. Enter BIOS setup to check if USB legacy is enabled.
Is the case dust-free and the processor thermal-pasted correctly to the heat sink? If you pull the heat sink off and the paste is not copious and soft it needs repasting. Google how to do it for a video tutorial.
Can you remember when this problem began? What changes were made just before or after it started?
I would try plugging up another power supply after calculating what you need for your hardware: Psu calculator - Windows 7 Forums
I would reinstall video card, new HD and DVD drive. Unplug any other HD's or peripherals.
Does the machine shut down the same if you remove HD? Vid card? DVD drive? Mouse? Keyboard?
Others should have suggestions too.
well computer started to turn off after the first time i tried to install windows 7/ put the new hard drive in
what is a PS2 keyboard?
and can i get a link to a guide or explanation on how to do all those things listed
is there any way i can do like a skype call or instant messaging with someone on here because this is just taking way too much time
EDIT:
by the way i found a random PS2 input keyboard you were talking about in my closet so i can get to the boot menu and bios now but i dont want to mess with anything before im told what to do
Enter BIOS setup, reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
In BIOS setup, check to see that the video card, HD and DVD drive register correctly. Enable USB legacy, then set SATA controller to AHCI to try install.
Now try booting DVD to install. Clean Install Windows 7
If it still shuts down, try unplugging HD, video card, DVD drive, mouse and Keyboard one at a time to see if it still shuts down randomly.
The computer was definitly overheating. i removed a side off of it and put a big fan i had in the basement right next to it and it doesnt turn off anymore. the thing is though, i dont want to have that big thing running full blast next to my computer all day. its loud and annoying. any other ways to make it not overheat
1) A good clean.
2) Replace overheating part.
3) A rebuild.
Add a case fan. They're cheap and often solve the problem.
Install Speedfan to monitor temperatures and add fan speed variability.
If the overheating persists then inspect the thermal paste bond between the CPU and it's heatsink. If you remove the heatsink and the paste is not copious and moist, repaste it carefully following this tutorial: Thermal Paste and How To Use It
