Windows 7 Installation - Computer Shuts Off During Installation

thanks for the help. one more question. after about 10 minutes of not doing anything my computer goes into what i believe is power saving mode where the screen goes black but the computer is still on because the fans are still going. but the only way to get the computer back on is by restarting it. how do i take off power saving mode

uhh i think i found the problem. my heat sinks filter looking thing is completely covered in dust. im going to go get a can of compressed air and clean it out immediately. my guess is that will definitly solve the problem

If you change the Power setting you will burn the CPU out, sort out the overheating.

nevermind that last post because there must be other problems. the computer still shuts off from what i assume is overheating since it doesnt when i put the big fan next to it

Since cleaning the heatsink helped, I would next want to be sure the CPU is pasted well and not frying. You can physically inspect it or enter BIOS setup at boot to watch temps.

What are the current BIOS settings to shut down at high temps? What temp is read?

What happens when you remove the components one-by-one as suggested earlier: HD, DVD drive, Video card, keyboard, mouse?

I am repeating myself here because you are unresponsive to these steps given twice earlier. In order to troubleshoot hardware now we need you to be fully interactive and responsive to every step given.

If a component isn't causing the shutdown, and all connections on the mobo are good and not shorting, then I would try another PSU to see the difference after recalculating the Power needs. You can call ahead and go into the Geek Squad when they are not busy and they will plug in a power supply for you to test this.

i looked at the temps earlier and it says the CPU warning temp is 80 and shutdown temp is 90 Celsius that is. and i watch it and it constantly stays at 82 celsius but still shuts down

also heres some info you might want to know. the day before i got the new hard drive and windows 7 the computer was running fine and had never suddenly turned off like this before. is there something i could have accidentally moved or something that could possibly be causing it to do this

Your CPU is frying. Is the fan actually working?

You need to remove the heatsink and repaste it, or find someone who can do it for you.
