    Windows 7 64 bit Upgrade

I just want to learn something. I want to reformat my pc, but i don't want to re-install all my programs back. If i choose upgrade, this will reinstall windows 7 and my files and programs should be ok? Am i correct on this. I have an Alienware Aurora ALX system, i had a problem with the video card, dell replaced them, then i could not see the bios screen, so they sent me a new motherboard, updated bios mother board, when i only needed to switch the video card wire from the back. Anyway i want to reinstall windows so i can have a fresh copy of it, but again i don't want to re-install all those programs if i don't need to. I just want to do it so i can have a fresh system again. If i choose the upgrade option can this be possible. Thanks all.

You don't want to reformat, it will wipe everything.

Here's a tutorial by Brink on how to do a Repair Install which is what you are looking for. repair-install

[quote]You cannot use a OEM Windows 7 "Factory" Restore/Recovery type of installation disc that came with or created from a store bought computer to do a repair install with. These can only be used do a clean install instead. [quote]

    Quote from Brink Tutorial.

    Your options are:

    1) If you really want to repair install as suggested, you'll need to borrow or download a win7 install dvd.

    2) What exactly do you mean by "fresh" system? Is your computer slow, boots up slower, behaves wierdly, what? If you describe, we can guide you. There're lots of good tuts here you can use.

i meant just a clean system, i have no current problems with it now, i just thought it will be a fresh start since they did the motherboard. It's a bit slow but everything i have is good, no viruses, my startup is what i want it to be. I guess if it aint broken, leave alone. I also thought if this was possible.

If you feel the need to reload the OS, there would be little reason to leave the programs....as those are what will create the junk that makes Windows 7 feel sluggish.

If you plan a head and have your drivers and apps in front of you...a fresh install doesn't take any more than 2 hours, tops, until the system is back up and running.
