Is this an installation problem or something else?

    No problem mate. Once you install the new drivers, restart your computer and try changing the resolution.

    Download the driver as a zip file and extract to an easily recognised folder.

    Do to Device Manager and right-click the VGA device & 'Update Driver Software', this time choose to maually browse for the driver and browse to the folde you extracted the zip file to. You can then select the driver to install & it should (note, should) work.

    Damn, I still can't change the res., and there's no driver updates. :/
    I'm just gonna have to get a new computer :/

    I would recommend you to do a clean install and then start downloading the chipset and then video driver. 1st install chipset and then video driver and it should work on a clean install.
