Have a look at Step Two to see how you want to do the partition(s)

You are welcome, learning is fun in it's self eh.

What would you reccomend? My HD is 149GB per the diskpart page. Ill use the computer mostly for basic online activities, office 2010, project 2007, CADD software, and i am also an online student at CWU, so every quarter i am given new software to install that I generally uninstall once the qtr is over.

I would use a single partition but I would let the installer do all the work, when the clean all is finished type exit 2 separate times and hit the <enter> key to close diskpart and get back to the installer and follow along at this tutorial at the link below.

OK, I took your advice and am attempting to install with the Clean Installation link you refered me to. When I get to step 8, it asks me to click the drive i want to install on (there is only 1), then click format, followed by the next button. ------- the problem is how "format" is greyed out and i cannot click it.

What to do, what to do....?

the only options not greyed out are "new" Refresh, and Load driver. I already tried refresh to see if it helped

All Linux code must be deleted using the CLEAN ALL command. As you have had linux on the HD you need do a Clean all & full format.

    Type in command line
    DISKPART
    LIST DISK
    SELECT DISK # (win HD)
    CLEAN ALL
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    SELECT PARTITION 1
    ACTIVE
    FORMAT fs=NTFS
    ASSIGN
    EXIT
    EXIT

    Attachment 166043

SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation
No need to format two times.

@ theog ... I have already used "clean all" I am now trying to allow WINDOWS7 to do the work for me and i beleive the bare foot kid was recommending this so i dont get myself into trouble. Your advice seems to be minimal expecting that i have the technical experience to make simple assumptions... i do not have that experience though.

As you can see by my latest post, this is the problem i am currently having. I have no desire to start off in the old spot... can you answer the last question i posed?

Click New and create a partition of all the unallocated space, and then you should get the Format option.

after clicking new, i accepted the size that it defaulted...

    now i have

Disc 0 Partition 1: system reserved 100MB total size - 86MB free space - System type
    Disc 0 Partition 2: 149GB total size - 149GB freespace - Primary type

Shall I do nothing and hit next? OR do i need to do anythiing to partition 2?
