Windows 7 - Dual Boot Setup question

Dual Boot Setup question

Hi

I currently have 3 o/s on my dual (triple!) boot system:

C\: XP
F\: Vista
H\: Windows 7 RC 7100

Come 6th August - MSDN release day (perhaps!) I want to replace XP with Windows 7.

So my question: If I overwrite XP with the new WIndows 7, what would I need to do to retain the Vista in the boot menu, or will it still be there on reboot?

If I lose the ability to dual boot to Vista then its no biggie as I plan on only having a single boot system in the future anyway. I just would need to locate my installation disks and keys for the stuff on Vista before installing Windows 7

Thanks

AB

Hi
I had a similar situation to upgrade from XP to 7, and Vista stayed in the boot menu.

Thats good to know.

So, if I boot into Vista, intall Windows 7 onto C:\ and then reboot that will work ok?

Going from xp to win 7 isn't a problem as long as the win 7 ver allows it. You are going to have to use bcedit for the vista boot entry. A tutorial on bcedit is on the tut section here at SF

Since the BIOS blindly loads the first physical sector on the disk and executes it, any setup with multiple operating systems must be done at the boot sector level.

Depending on where you are when you format, this sector may remain intact.
