upgrade of windows 7 Pro 32 bit to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on HP Probook

    Dear All,

I had purchased HP Probook 4520 in september 2010 from kenya with Pre Installed Windows 7 Pro 32 bit.I want to upgrade to windows 7 Pro 64 bit.HP didnt provided windows 7 boot disk and license key.

In Disk Management it shows me 4 Primary Partions:
System Partition as Active Primary partition 300 MB NTFS
    C: Primary Partition NTFS
HP Recovery Tools Primary partition NTFS
HP Tools E: Primary Partition on FAT 32

After Running Key generator i got the windows CD key and OEM Product Id tied to CD key.

    My question are:
1.Can i upgrade this to 64 Bit windows 7 Pro and How.
2.Can i use 64 bit Windows 7 Pro downloaded from Microsoft site and enter the CD Key.
    3. I am based out of India. For any activation of license i need to call Microsoft India helpline or make a ISD call to Microsoft Kenya helpline.

    With Regards

You can't dowload the OS from microsoft unless you purchase it online.
But if you download it illegaly, theoretically you can use your win 7 pro 32bit key to activate an installation of win7 pro 64bit.
If your windows is activated you can use this (screenshot lol.) app to find your key.
ps why do you want to upgrade?

OK, i know that but how do you get the windows 7 64 bit install files?
Can you log into microsoft's shop and download it 4 free? I dont think so, you have purchased the license for both 32 and 64 bit, but you can't download 64bit legally.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

You need to use the license key from the COA, & not the key found by a Key generator.

Clean Install : Factory COA Activation Key

You can Order HP Recovery Disks from here:

Hello Harinder, the problem here is that 32 bit and 64 bit windows are different creatures and there are separate disks for the 2 versions. Of course you dont have any disk whatsoever.

    So your options are:

    1) Download a 64 bit disk and clean install windows, then activate with the sticker key. Dont ask where to find the installer, thats your problem. Before you do that create recovery disks and backup important data.

    2) Request HP to send you the 64 bit recovery disks instead of the 32 bit ones, they may or may not oblige.

    3) Stick to 32 bit. Since you have only 3gb ram, theres nothing to be gained by switching to 64 bit. Tha main advantage of 64 bit is it lets you use 4gb ram and more, otherwise dont think that 64 bit is inherently faster or anything.

    Hi Bill,

I will upgrade my ram after i upgrade to 64 bit.

The reason i am upgrading is that currently i am running Vmware workstation on my windows 7 Pro 32 bit. It only takes 32 bit OS as it Virtual Machines.

with windows 7 64 bit my vmware workstation will able to 64 bit VM.

Can you confirm that Cd key which was preinstalled by HP on my windows 7 Pro laptop can be used with 64 Bit windows 7 Pro.
As for as download is concerned it is totally legal to download windows 7 pro evaluation copy.

Theres nothing called "CD key" here, because theres no such CD. What you need is the STICKER key (also called COA key), it would be printed on a rainbow sticker at the bottom of the machine. That key will work with both 32 and 64 bit windows of the particular edition (pro in your case).
