Windows 7 Ultimate x64 Repair (Hardcore problem)

First of, I would say that I have looked through other topics relating to the repair of Windows. But most of those have something that I cannot provide.

A Dump file. When my system crashes it freezes up at "Initializing disc". So there is no error log.

I have two main issues.

1. Do to the deletion of the Library drivers (which are useless), SP1 cannot be installed.

2. My NIC (Realtek 8111D) costs the BSOD Driver_irgl_less_or_not_qual because of a problem with ndis.sys.

Using a WiFi Dongle, the nr. 2 problems stops but it is not an good solution.

So I wanted to repair windows. But my problem is that doing the process I get the error "64 bit system cannot be upgraded to 32 bit and vise versa".

<- However, it is Windows 7 Ultimate x64 which is installed and it is the same disc which I originally installed from that I am using.

I tried with another disc but since that has SP1 the repair process is rejected because of that.



Any clues as to how I can make the repair happen??

What "library drivers" did you delete? This may have damaged system files.

Try uninstalling Catalyst listings in Programs and Features. You only needs the drivers if you're not overclocking or have special settings.

Double-check the installed bit rate and the DVD's bit rate. If necessary locate a SP1 installer for your verison and desired bit-rate as this will slip in SP1 during Repair Install

It's the default Driver folder which Windows uses for absolutely nothing.
This is the location;

Back when I removed them (a very long time ago). Long before SP1 was released. I did some searching and found it that temporary drivers, default drivers needed after Windows install and Device Manager drivers store their updated version at that location. So for a person whom always manually installs never drivers, that folder is completely useless.

I have been working on this for 3 days now. And of course I am sure that my system is 64 bit as well as the disc I use, furthermore, I tried with a 32-bit installer, which just told me that it could not install on a x64 system.

That depends on how "use" is defined. The folder serves no purpose once you have installed drivers manually. But for some strange reason Windows just needs to detect the files presence, even though they are not used.

I just thought I'll give it a shot here before reinstalling. I hate all of that backup stuff that needs to be done

If you're unsure as to whether you've got the 64-bit version of Windows just press the Win+Pause keyboard combo to bring up your computer's basic information window - it'll tell you there.

You should really take Gregrocker's advice and carry out a repair install. I've learned the hard way never to delete any system files or folders as invariably there's a price to pay - as you are now finding out.

I really do appreciate all the fast suggestions :)

But I just needed to know if there was any suggestions/methods that where out of the regular ways. This whole NIC issue is the first time I have tried that in my many years of service to the Tech world.

I admit that maybe my first words should have been "IT Consultant searching for help". But for me, those words in and Forum where one is looking for help, just sounds so try hard.

This issue is just such a pain. Ahh well. I'm going to reinstall with a new installation disc which includes SP1.

And once my entire system is configured. I will keep an Image backup. I miss the good old days of Norton Ghost.

Norton Ghost v15 will work with Windows 7.

I will have a look at it. Last Ghost I used was v.9. Since then I worked with dual Servers and tape backup. Primitive but much more secure.

The case will be marked as solved. My system will be reinstalled and then I will have a look at a new backup solution.
