    Oem reinstall

Hey, my girlfriends computer is seriously screwed with spyware and its screwed up like everything. I'm just wondering if there's a way to put a fresh Oem install on the computer. We managed to recover her key before it corrupted the file system but its pretty useless without an Oem install disk right?

If this is builder's OEM you can reinstall using the key read from HD., if you don't have the $100+ value key backed up.

If this is factory OEM then the key read from HD will not work to reinstall - you must use the key on COA sticker, which every computer sold with Windows installed must have affixed to it.

Here are steps to get a perfect reinstall of factory OEM: Reinstalling Windows 7

You can also run factory Recovery from its partition but I would make the Recovery Disks as a backup first. Or you can run the disks if the partition won't boot to run.

But I guess I'm wondering do I need a certain DVD or cd to install from or can I just use a vista pro disc with the coa key. I thought that their keys might only work with special discs. Like I know I've seen discs that say HP and Dell xp around

Did the PC originally come with Xp or Vista or Windows 7?

Best thing to do first is confirm what version of windows you are useing currently then go from there

You don't want to go installing random windows /If there is a sticker like Greg the rocker stated look at the version of windows and use the key from the sticker unless you have a full retail copy with a key

Are you wanting to install XP, Vista or Win7.

You mentioned XP, then Vista, and are posting in a Win7 forum.

What OS and version is on the COA sticker attached to machine?

Or is this a retail OEM verison you purchased? What version?

It's an HP computer that came with vista (home premium I think, don't have it handy) I've got the key from the coa and i want to put the same version of vista on again. Just free of spyware lol

So you want to reinstall vista but what about the 7 upgrade you mentioned earlier?

Im kinda confused did you not want to install 7 again ?

cause if you want to install 7 from the disc you can just format and skip doing the vista instal and do a fresh win 7 ,But im not sure what you are trying to do so i will leave this to the experts
