Windows 7 - Trouble Re-Installing Win 7

Hello,

I have a computer that came pre-installed with Vista Home Premium 64 Bit. A little over a year ago I did a clean install of Win 7 Home Premium 64 Bit and have had no issues with the machine until recently. A couple weeks ago the computer would not boot past the Windows Logo. No new hardware or software had recently been installed. I attempted to to do a system restore back to an earlier point but that did not help. I also attempted to do start up repair using the Win 7 disk and was not able to fix the issue. I then decided to try to just re install the OS. I re-formatted the hard drive and attempted a clean install and the was able to get to where it stated it was finishing the install and it would just hang there and not complete the install. I attempted this a few times with no luck. I then attempted to re install the original OS and put Vista back on the computer. I was able to successfully install Vista on the Computer. I decided to try the Win 7 install again and just did the upgrade option and it would still hang near the end of the installation.

Any ideas on why Win 7 will no longer Install on my PC?

Check your ram.

If you want to try another clean install of Windows 7 as a start and to rule out format errors up front, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, exit diskpart and use the installer to create a single 100GB partition to do the install to, to see if the installer will complete this time.

After you have copied out or made back-ups of the data you need to external media and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

I tried this and both the RAM and Hard drive test out fine.

Sounds like it's hanging during the driver-loading phase. If so, enter Device Manager using this method to disable any Devices showing in error, likely the Display driver. Device Manager - Access During Windows 7 Installation

Then update the Driver from the desktop when install completes.

If this approach fails, try resetting the CMOS. Unplug all peripherals and other HD's.

I did attempt this but it still hangs out the point where it says "Completing installation"

Thanks everyone for their help.I finally got it working. I tried doing the device manager suggestion from gregrocker and I was able to complete the install. And after a few reboots in and out of safe mode I found that my TV card was apparently the culprit. Once I disabled that I was able to boot Win 7 normally again. So for now and life is good. Thanks again!!

We need to remember the TV card issue. Glad it was revealed in Device manager during install.
