UPGRADE version: Can you a do a 'clean' install

With VISTA, you could not install a fresh copy, you needed to upgrade your existing OS. (unlike XP, 2000, etc.)

Did this change with 7? Can you do a clean install from an upgrade 7 DVD?

    Thanks!

You can do a clean install with a vista upgrade disc, but it remains to be seen if that still applies to windows 7. And just so it's clear i am talking about the double install method if your upgrading to a machine with no Operating system. Otherwise yes you can do an clean install with the windows 7 upgrade disc.

OK thanks. Lets see. I have just bought a DELL (already downgraded from Vista home to XP Home at the factory) and I am eligible for a FREE upgrade. Let's hope I can install a clean copy when 7 comes out.

That's all you can do from XP. No upgrades are possible.

He means that you can only do a clean install because you are running XP, if you were running vista you could do an in-place upgrade.
