Win 7 Install Problems (BOOTMGR)

You guys probably get asked this all the time, but I have searched everywhere and spent countless hours trying to rectify this but haven't been able to. I have a 250 GB HDD (sata) with Win 7 installed and a 1 TB HDD (sata) that I just performed a quick format on via Win 7 disk management. I unplug the 250 GB HD, put in my Win 7 Home Premium CD to do a fresh install on the 1 TB drive, and I get the "BOOTMGR is missing" text. I have checked my BIOS boot settings, and I'm booting from the CD first. I even tried disabling the other two boot devices and only leaving the CD, and it still won't boot from the CD.

The help and tutorials I have found online suggest performing stuff via the command prompt and/or from within Windows, but I can't get to either; the Windows CD won't even load up. Could this be due to a faulty DVD drive perhaps? I can't think of anything else to try.

Are you not getting the press any key to boot from dvd on first boot?

Once again Windows 7 is not on a cd, unless you`re just using the term loosely.

This is all I get:

Boot from CD/DVD :

BOOTMGR is missing
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

I meant DVD, yes. It's legit Microsoft disc, not a burned copy of any thing. It does not prompt me to press any key to boot, just what you see above.

Hook the other hard drive back up and test your dvd drive with a movie, music, or a program to make sure it`s working properly. You could also drop in the disc you are trying to use and see if you get the press any key message. But DO NOT hit any key on your keyboard. Your just testing the drive.

Also, check again and make sure your dvd drive is 1st on the boot list. And while your at it, look to see what key will bring up your boot menu. It should be down at the bottom of the screen during post.

You know what, that might be the trick. I didn't realize the boot menu was different from changing the boot order in the BIOS. Del gets to BIOS, and F12 gets to boot menu. When I hit F12, Hard Disk is selected with a star. Not sure I can test further tonight though, because my wireless blue tooth keyboard doesn't seem to be working. I hate wireless keyboards and thought I had a wired PS2 one around, but guess not.

Edit: will test the hard drive with a file here shortly.

Yes, you really need a ps2 or a usb keyboard and mouse.
But at least your getting somewhere !!

Yeah, that's about how I feel right now, a possible answer at my finger tips bug I'm denied! The reason I have one is because right now my computer is hooked up to my living room's TV so when I'm not using a trackpad app on my phone I pull out the wireless keyboard and mouse. But who knows where my PS2 keyboard went, thought I had one...

Were you able to get into your bios with this keyboard ? You usually have to be physically connected to the pc.

Yup, I can get to and navigate the BIOS, but not the boot select window.

Have you experienced where the BIOS will be set to boot to the disc drive, but the boot select window says to boot to the hard drive? Seems strange that there would be two different settings like that.
