getting programs to run at startup with UAC

There are some programs that I need to run at startup, but they tend to need to be run as administrator. I have dragged the shortcut into the startup folder, but this doesn't start the program. Some apps that I need are RealTemp, Gigabyte Dynamic Energy Saver2, and Gigabyte Easy Tune 6.

East Tune 6 does seem to start itself at startup, even though it needs to be run as administrator if I start it from it's shortcut, and I don't get a UAC window, so there must be a way to configure startup for these kind of things. The DES2 app also runs at startup, but not always for some reason, so I would like to add it to the startup list to make sure it's running. I have followed the windows instructions for adding programs to startup, and I have also checked the "run as administrator" check box under compatibility, but neither of these seems to do anything.

I'm not sure why you have a "run as administrator" check box if you still get asked if you want to run as admin even when it is checked. Why have a feature that doesn't do anything? I'm not sure that the entire UAC feature is supposed to do anyway, other than annoy you when you do something that microsoft would rather you not do.

Is there any way to configure this nonsense so that is somewhat less of a pain in the *ss???

The last time I tried to use the win7 task scheduler, I got pretty confused. I could see information on currently scheduled stuff, but it wasn't very clear how to add a new task. Is there a good link for this?

So when I schedule, I can just say to schedule for startup time? Do you know if I will get a UAC prompt or now? It's not the end of the world if I do, but it would be nice to skip since there will be several.

Task Scheduler is something you need to learn to use with Windows 7 IMO. Another method I have found that can work is to put the executable into your Environment Variables Path statement.

The rig is out to IT getting some software and such installed. When I get it back, I will start with some of this.

I am looking forward to getting some win 7 rigs running as cleanly as my XP rigs.

If you follow BFKs link to create the task all you need to do is go to the triggers tab and add a trigger for startup.
