Need help installing Windows 7

I have a laptop with Ubuntu on it. I want Windows 7. I DO NOT HAVE AN INSTALLATION CD!!!!

I have a product key for Windows 7, but I can't figure out how to get the installation file...if that makes sense.

Is there a disc or download that I can use to put my product key in an install Windows 7?

Thanks.

The downloads are out there in the ether, but it is against forum policy to post them.

Hello rondo341, welcome to Seven Forums!

It is against forum policy to post dl links to Windows 7 installers but they can be found all over the inerwebz; you will need to borrow or download installation media of the exact same Windows 7 version as the activation key you posess so you can do a clean install using the Windows activation key.

As you have had Linux on the PC you will need to wipe secure erase the Hard Disk Drive to get Windows 7 to install, have a look through #2 in the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

information   Information

1) To rule out HDD Master Boot Record format errors, boot the Windows 7 installation media to diskpart and run the clean command, it takes only seconds to complete; once the clean finishes, exit diskpart and use the Windows 7 installer to create and format a single 100GB partition for the installation.

If that doesn't work, after another clean, use diskpart to create, format and mark Active a single 100GB partition to see if that works, use Step Two #2 in the SSD/HDD tutorial for reference.

You can always extend the Windows partition to include the remaining unallocated space on the HDD / SSD or create additional Primary partitions or an Extended partition after the installation completes if you choose.

2) If you have ever had Linux installed to the HDD in any way, a simple clean command will not over-write the Grub boot-loader, you must use the full clean all command to completely over-write the Grub loader so Windows will install.

In that case, they are illegal downloads, which I refuse to do.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Well, there isn't alot you can do because it is against the forum rules to post a link to one and you also oppose to doing it.

Borrow a disk from any one who have Windows 7(the version of Windows 7 doesn't matter). Then you can either wipe out Linux or you can create a mutli boot by installing Windows in another partition.

Nobody here would or did give you advice to do anything illegal. We help thousands of people clean reinstall Win7 and would know by now if we were doing anything sketchy.
