Windows XP installer can't see partitions on C. drive

Hi
Followed the tutorial 'Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP". I have windows 7 already installed trying to install windows xp in the empty partition. But everytime i get to step 5 on the windows xp installation i have problems. the installer does not SEE the separate partitions on the C drive and just list it as unknown.
. . . . . . please advise.

Below is a screen shot of my disk management, per request.

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP

Can't continue to step 8: Run EasyBCD.
Just finished installing windows XP on the empty partition. Rebooted the computer and i get this error:

A disk read error occurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

Have investigated steps to get to the command prompt and nothing has worked.

1) Make sure the OS HD Drive is the first boot HD Drive in BIOS.

Do a Strartup Repair:
Startup Repair
Note: You may need to do startup repair 3 to 4 times.
Startup Repair - Run 3 Separate Times

EasyBCD is best used in Windows 7.
