    Windows 7 Key

    Hi guys

    I have a
n Acer Aspire laptop, and I need to reinstall windows 7 on it. I looked under the laptop to see the product key, but some of the key has faded away. So I downloaded The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and got the product key from that..... but..... I compared it to the letters and numbers that is on the base, and it seems to be different. Is this normal? will the key that i got from The Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder report still work?

    Cheers

Hello bigmaz, welcome to Seven Forums!

I would trust SIW better than that other app at this link below, it doesn't even need installed to Windows and it will run from a USB stick.

There's also a lot of useful information in this tutorial linked below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

    Hi Bare Foot

Thanks a lot for your quick reply. I actually done the SIW - System Information for Windows first before Magical Jelly, following the advice on here, and they both gave me the same code.

    Cheers

If all else fails, then I suggest that you contact aspire and see if they will help
you get the proper product key for your laptop.

You can not use the factory OEM-SLP activation method Product Key that Belarc, may/may not find to reinstall Windows.

       Information
We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.

Have you tried pressing <Alt+F10> at boot up, to goto the Acer eRecovery Management.

That is what I was afraid of that means the key I got from those programs will not work when I reinstall windows Although, if I use the backup DVD's i created when I bought the laptop that puts the laptop back to factory settings, will it ask me for a key? Or will it recognise that it is linked to this laptop?

Acer tech support might help you recover the key, which should be protected like any other $100+ valuable.

In the past I've been able to get the key audited from HD using Belarc to activate with help from MS Phone Activation: How To Activate Windows 7 by Phone Step-by-Step Guide

Be sure to make the Recovery Disks and preserve the Recovery partition to run if this fails.

Just to say, theog was correct, the install used the OEM-SLP, so I did not need my activation code from the base of the laptop phew!! All sorted. Thanks a lot for your help on this guys, really appreciate ppl spending their time helping us noobs
