Repaired OEM Windows 7 Ultimate now tells me not Genuine

Help !! Been happily using my PC Tablet with preinstalled Windows Ultimate for over 4 months. It was activated and validated and working ok. I made a fatal error when trying to create a new partition and my system crashed. The OS would not boot so I downloaded an ISO image from Digital river to try to repair (no disc shipped with machine). Repair done and then I get the message "Windows 7, Build 7601, This copy of windows is not Genuine" When I try to put my OEM product ID number in the activation form it doesnt even accept the first character. When I try to get support from microsoft I just get led to a page telling me to pay £135 for a genuine copy.

OEM product ID number? Do you mean the product key on the sticker?

And by "repair", do you mean you ran a repair install or was it a clean install? Please describe in detail what you did. Digitalriver isos are upgrade ones, so a workaround is needed to clean install from such disks.

    Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

You mention Product ID, which is different from the Product Key.

The Product ID tells Microsoft whether you bought a retail or OEM version of Windows and as you're using an OEM Product ID you need to contact your computer manufacturer for support.

The Product Key is a 25-digit key that activates your software.

You also should have created a recovery disc for your computer, which would have got you out of trouble, so on the face of any lack of support from anywhere, you are probably faced with buying a new copy of Windows.

However, if you know what your Product Key is you can use this method to install a copy of Windows. Clean Install : Factory COA Activation Key

And, BTW, digitalriver ISOs are available only for home premium and pro versions. So irrespective of which one you use, your Ultimate key will not work whether its a repair install or a clean install.

You need a win7 install disk (borrow or download), then best to clean install the same edition that came preinstalled (Ultimate in your case), then activate with the product key on the sticker.

All I got with the Tablet was the OEM Number XXXXX-OEM-XXXXXXX-XXXXX. Unfortunately no contact details for manufacturer.

    See my post above yours.

That string with the OEM in the middle is not the product key. Locate a rainbow coloured sticker on your computer- it could be at the back, below the battery, beneath the back panel anywhere. The key on that sticker is what you need.

Problem solved, Just bought myself a boxed retail copy of windows ultimate from eBid. Guess I should learn from my mistake of buying from unknown sources and also messing about with things in my computer I know nothing about.

    Thanks for the help guys!!
