Installation problems, windows could not configure...

I had Windows 7 Ultimate x64 installed on my system now since it has been out. Today we had a bad storm come through and knock power out for a minute or so. I go to turn my pc back on, (plugged into a surge protector) and windows cannot startup. It goes to start up repair, couldnt find a fix. So i figure i'll just format and reinstall windows, everything has been saved to my slave drive anyways and ive been wanting to reformat for awhile. Ive tried many different things so i figure lets go with the format. I pop the disc in and go to start installing. Format the partition, had to use diskpart because it wouldnt create that system reserved and i set the primary partition to active. All my slave drives (2) are currently unplugged, power and sata cable. It gets as far as restarting after installing and then goes to completing installation and i get a pop up. Windows could not configure the system or something along those lines. It then restarts.

I've searched these forums, searched everywhere and tried everything but its still not installing. I've installed it multiple times on this computer and never had any issues. Anyone have any suggestions to try?

    quick rundown of system specs
    biostar t series ta790gx 128m
    6gb ddr2
    150 gb master drive
    amd athlon x2 64 4200+
    Radeon HD 3350

Thank you and if i missed a fix throughout these forums for this i apologize

The exact error message would be very helpful.

It sounds like a surge may have damaged something, or at the very least screwed up your BIOS. I'd remove the RAM, disconnect everything from the motherboard, and leave only the CPU, one stick of RAM, and the video card installed, then boot into BIOS and restore defaults, reboot, then configure your BIOS the way you want it. It would also be a good idea to test your RAM and your hard drive. Once you post the exact message it may be easier to pinpoint the problem.

I thought i had finally got through last night since it started to install again but then it failed. Im not 100% sure on the error message due to it restarting about 2-3 seconds after that window pops up.

Something similiar to Setup could not configure the system for windows.

When i get home i'll try the steps you outlined above. I have cleared the cmos and reset the bios but i will try again with only one stick of ram in.

Is there a way during installation set it to hault on all errors?

you mentioned a surge might have, i actually am running a outlet surge protector along with a surge protector power strip, reason for both is my computer takes up a whole power strip and my other electronics on the desk are connected to the 4 way outlet surge. None of the lights on the surge protector are red that indicate a surge though. But at the very least i'll start with bare minimum and work up from there.

thanks again i'll run memtest86+ when i get home as well.

ran a 2 pass ram test using memtest86+ and had no errors, that itself took about 2.5 hours. Also Ran a quick and advance HDD fitness test for hitachi drives. No errors with that as well. I will restore BIOS defaults again, run 1 stick of 2 GB ram and attempt reinstall. I will let you know if it works and/or if i receive these same erros. Thanks for the tips everyone.

Latest install didnt work either, im trying again now with 1 stick of 2gb no video card, using onboard, bios set to defaults, disabled floppy though.

    this is the error
Windows Setup could not configure Windows to run on this computer's hardware
Then, in a few seconds, the whole machine powers down. Trying to restart produces the message:
    STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}
    0x00000000 (0xc0000001 0x00100448)

solved, with onboard video it installed just fine. Im going to attempt to put the card back in and see if anything happens. also listed my video card wrong, hd 3650...but possibly my card could be dead? i encountered that error just after the screen went black and resized out to 1080p.

I'll see if this causes any errors and then let you know and mark it solved.

Thanks again for all the help.
